This past Friday, I unveiled the full cover of my book, The Handwritten Life. It is a "dummy" copy of the book, which means that it looks and feels exactly like my book but the inner text hasn't been printed yet. It feels like real book, which is ALMOST here.

PRE-ORDER • SHIPPING END OF OCTOBER 2026

At the end of October, the first copies of The Handwritten Life are beginning to find their way into the world.

For this special first edition, I’ve reserved 150 copies to be signed by hand and accompanied by a Crescent Moon seal made especially for the book.

The seal will be entered into the Collector’s Register, and when the 150 are gone, the design will be retired. There will be no second run.

I love the thought of these first books carrying a mark that belongs only to their beginning. The Crescent Moon has appeared before in my work, and it returns in the final chapter of the book, making its way through the story before becoming part of this first edition.

The Persephone Penny Pawn

Today, I am opening pre-orders for the newest étui pawn: The Persephone Penny Pawn.

I will be showing you the penny itself this coming week, but before I do, I wanted to offer it sight unseen to those of you who already know you would like one.

This is only the second pawn I have ever made.

The first was the Kitty Book Pawn, a tiny cat perched atop a stack of books. It sold out, and once it was gone, it was gone.

Persephone is the next piece.

And she is also part of something much larger that I have been working toward.

Eventually, you will be able to assemble a full chess set. Not all at once. Slowly, piece by piece, character by character, each created as its own little work of art. I love the idea that the set will come into existence over time, and that those who begin collecting now will have watched the whole world gradually assemble.

For this pawn, I chose Persephone, standing at that extraordinary threshold between maiden and queen, spring and winter, the world above and the world below.

I will tell you much more about her when I unveil the design this week.

For now, however, there is one important thing to know; The Persephone Penny will only ever be available as a pawn.

So, for those of you who don't need to see her first and would like a lower collector number, pre-orders for the Persephone Penny Pawn are now open.

And for everyone else, I cannot wait to show you what she looks like this week.
