| THE EPISTOLARIAN |
On a crisp morning, sunlight peeks through the curtains, the soft rustle of sheets is your only soundtrack, and you find yourself comfortably cocooned in your bed with a world of possibilities. But instead of the usual hustle to get started with the day, imagine granting yourself the luxury of a full day in that cozy haven – a “Bed Day.”
A “Bed Day” isn’t just an act of rebellion against our relentless schedules; it’s a powerful ritual of self-care. In our fast-paced world, where productivity is often equated with self-worth, taking a day to slow down can feel counterintuitive. Yet, the very act of staying in bed, catching up on emails, making phone calls, or even penning down this newsletter (from the snug corners of a bed, mind you), serves as a poignant reminder of the importance of rest and relaxation.
Rest as a Portal to Joy
Rest isn’t simply the absence of work or action; it’s a conscious space we create for rejuvenation. By allowing our bodies to rest, we grant our minds the freedom to wander, explore, and ultimately, feel. As the renowned poet Rumi once said, “Don’t be satisfied with stories, how things have gone with others. Unfold your own myth.”
When we afford ourselves the time to feel deeply into our lives, moments of pure, unadulterated joy become more accessible. By lying in bed, without the pressures of the outside world, we get the unique opportunity to connect with our true selves, dreams, and desires. It’s an invitation to recalibrate, to remember what truly matters, and to recognize that sometimes, doing less can mean experiencing more.
Famous Bed-Day Advocates
Throughout history, several influential figures have embraced the idea of working from their beds, proving that rest and productivity are not mutually exclusive.
- Winston Churchill: The British statesman had a penchant for taking daily afternoon naps and often worked from his bed in the mornings, reading newspapers, and dictating to his secretaries. Churchill believed this routine helped him get twice as much done each day.
- Marcel Proust: The celebrated French writer wrote most of his magnum opus, “In Search of Lost Time,” while lying in bed. His bedroom was his sanctuary, a place where memories flowed and inspiration struck.
- Frida Kahlo: After a bus accident left her bedridden, Kahlo took up painting as a form of therapy. Many of her iconic self-portraits were crafted while she lay in bed, using a special easel her mother provided.

Seal of the Week: Qui me cherche me trouve
This seal portrays a delicate flower subtly emerging from behind slender blades of grass. Engraved in French are the words "Qui me cherche me trouve," which translate to "Whoever seeks me finds me" in English.
The seal evokes the idea that beauty and splendor often reside in the simplest of moments, waiting to be discovered. It suggests that profound beauty doesn't always lie in distant or challenging places, like the peak of a mountain, but can be found just beyond the familiar, hidden behind the mundane.
This seal is a gentle reminder that beauty doesn't entirely conceal itself. It's there, reaching out to us, beckoning us to simply pause and immerse ourselves in its embrace.
Two Collectors Seals
The popular Death Blowing Bubbles seal and the unique witch seal, with the inscription "All Have their Hobbies" are almost sold out.
Good news? I still have a limited number of each design, ready for their perfect homes. Order here: Death Blowing Bubbles seal & the witch seal.
Mastering Two-Toned Wax Seals: The Kathryn Hastings Technique
My newest evergreen course launches soon. It will teach you how to make gorgeous two-tone seals through the pour and scrape method I invented.
Candidly, this is one of the most difficult techniques in the art of wax seals. It took me three weeks to invent and master with non-stop practice and many expletives! The good news is that you won't need to go through all the trouble I did to master this technique. I share my best practices to get a perfect two-tone seal each time, and also share my favorite color theory advice for making swoon-worthy seals.

Like always, the pre-order option gives you access to the course as soon as it becomes available and also gives you a slightly lower rate than those who sign up later.
