The Pleasure of Decoding a Letter 👁️🚪🐑

| THE EPISTOLARIAN |

This week’s Epistolarian is short and sweet. I hope it nudges you toward making a Valentine or two, and perhaps writing a rebus letter.

This week I released a new rebus seal composed of three images: 👁️🚪🐑. Read aloud, it becomes “I adore you.” Rebus writing has always delighted me for its mix of wit and intimacy. It asks the reader to pause and decipher. After all, isn't letter writing all about the time to linger a little longer?

I Adore You Rebus Seal

Last year I created a detailed guide and dictionary for writing rebus letters of your own. You can find it here.

This new seal is one of my favorites for Valentine’s Day because it offers something playful to decode while leaving generous room for artistry. It is elegant left plain, but it truly comes alive when painted. Below are a few of my favorites from this week.

Lucky Red is such a fun color with this one!

Color of the Week: Jaipur

This luscious, vibrant shade draws its inspiration from India’s famed Pink City. Jaipur’s warm, rose-colored walls were first painted in 1876 to welcome the Prince of Wales, and the color has endured as an emblem of hospitality, history, and beauty. Jaipur Pink carries the spirit of creativity and elegance that defines the city’s enduring charm.

For me, this wax is not only about color, but about longing. Creating it has sharpened my desire to visit Jaipur one day, to feel the heat of stone walls under the sun, to hear the clatter of morning markets, to smell dust, flowers, and spice carried through narrow streets. I imagine running my hand along painted facades, and sensing how beauty is built into daily life there. I hope it invites you to dream as well, perhaps even to imagine us one day traveling together, encountering its rich architecture, streets, and artistic legacy firsthand.

Back in Stock: Kitty Book Penny

The final 27 Kitty Book Pawns are now available. This design will not be remade.

This pawn carries its own penny, marked with two simple symbols: a house cat and a book. Together, they speak to rest and curiosity, independence and learning, and the long work of becoming something meaningful from modest beginnings.

Kitty Book Pawn

Cat
Inscribed Solis sui domina, “sovereign of herself.” The cat stands for independence, discernment, and chosen stillness. A reminder to rest without apology and act only when it’s truly yours to act.

Book
Inscribed Cogito cresco, “I think, I grow.” The open boosk represents learning as something living and ongoing, shaped by return, reflection, and time.
