Bonjour, Helix Collector!

You are holding a piece created in limited number and with deliberate restraint. This private page is reserved exclusively for collectors of the Helix Edition and accompanies your Étui as a place of care, context, and quiet welcome.

About the Helix Étui

The Second Edition Hastings Étui, known as the Helix Étui, takes its name from the helix cut into the metal handle, a form chosen with precision and intention.

The helix represents growth without repetition. Unlike a circle, which returns to the same point, a helix moves forward while remaining rooted in its origin. Each turn echoes the last at a higher elevation. It is a symbol of inheritance, evolution, and refinement over time, not rupture or replacement.

The cutouts in the Étui allow the pennies within to be partially revealed and lend the object a subtle, bell-like resonance when they are placed inside. As the Étui is handled, it reveals a shifting diamond pattern through the openings, creating a sense of upward motion.

The images shown reflect the final prototype. The first editions to ship may feature slightly wider openings, allowing the pennies to be seen more clearly.

Basic Care Information

  • Handle the Étui with clean, dry hands
  • Store in a dry environment away from moisture
  • Allow the metal and pennies to age naturally; patina is expected and welcomed
  • Use only a soft, dry cloth for cleaning
  • Avoid abrasive surfaces or chemical cleaners to preserve the finish and integrity of the piece

The Pennies

Penny One

Heads

This seal centers on three bound keys, symbols of thresholds, stewardship, and trust. Keys do not force entry, they fit, suggesting that what is meant for us already has a place prepared. Three keys together imply that no single faculty is sufficient on its own. Intellect, intuition, and devotion must act together.

Inscription: Claves intus sunt
Translation: the keys are within

Inscription: cresce non cambia
Translation: it grows, it does not change

Penny Two

The Claire Penny

Inspired by a beloved patron, Claire McDonald, who wished for a pairing of a bee and a flower.

Heads

This seal bears a bee, long associated with industry, order, and the transformation of effort into sustenance. Bees create through steady labor rather than force or haste.

Inscription: Ex pulchritudine vita
Translation: from beauty, life

Tails
This seal features lily of the valley, associated with humility, renewal, and the return of happiness. Delicate in appearance yet resilient in habit, it blooms reliably after winter.

Inscription: return to happiness

Penny Three

Heads

This seal bears the inscription verba mea fiunt, set without imagery. The phrase emphasizes language as action rather than ornament. Words shape memory, alter relationships, and carry consequence.

Translation: my words become
