For the first 150 pre-orders of The Handwritten Life placed through my website, I wanted to make something that could only belong to this moment.

Each of these 150 books will be hand-signed by me and accompanied by a special wax seal I designed exclusively for this first edition. Only 150 of these seals will be made. It will not be released separately or made available again.

The First Edition

This first edition is particularly meaningful to me because I think of The Handwritten Life as a book I will return to throughout my life.

I hope to revise it, add to it, and allow future editions to change as I do. This is the book as I understand it now, at forty, and these first 150 copies mark its very beginning.

The Seal

For the accompanying seal, I returned to the crescent moon.

The crescent moon was the image that first inspired my Everlasting Penny, and it appears again in the final chapter of The Handwritten Life. It felt like the right image to mark the beginning of the book because it is also the image with which the book ends.

The sketch shown here reveals the composition, but I am keeping the finished engraving a secret a little longer. I will unveil the completed seal live closer to the book’s release.
