In an age where the tempo of existence relentlessly quickens with each passing decade, a singular mantra resonates within me: "I have no time to rush."
It's a reminder that even amidst the whirlwind of our daily routines and responsibilities, the act of rushing serves little purpose other than to strip us of the joy found in the present moment. When I rush, I rarely arrive any sooner or perform any better; I simply feel robbed of ease.
I am frequently asked about the relevance of letter writing in our modern era. Many wonder if it's an art form past its prime or worth rejuvenating. While it's true that letters have historically been vehicles for conveying information, their essence encapsulates so much more. The practice of penning down thoughts, sealing them with wax, mandates a deliberate pause in our fast-paced lives, inviting us to savor the tactile joy of creating beauty firsthand.
Whenever someone writes to me sharing that they recently started making wax seals or began writing letters again, I feel a joyful excitement for them, knowing they'll reclaim a realm of boundless time—a rare commodity in our contemporary hustle, where opportunities to unwind and manifest artistry are increasingly treasured.
This week, I invite you to slow down and just write a beautiful letter. ✨
Seal of the Week - Je Suis Presse
A swift greyhound, renowned for its unmatched speed, dashes across the landscape, a letter clutched gently in its mouth. Inscribed with "Je suis pressé," (I'm in a hurry). the message signals urgency.
Yet, the creation of this letter advocates for a different approach. Where speed dominates delivery, I invite you to slow down when writing. For me, the letter embodies a powerful counter-mantra: "Je ne suis pas pressé" (I'm not in a hurry) or "Je suis tranquille" (I'm tranquil), embracing a state of calm and presence over the hurry that dictated its journey.
Wax Color of the Week: Athena
The symbolism embedded in Athena's lore is both potent and inspiring. As the Greek goddess of wisdom, strategy, and warfare, Athena embodies intelligence, courage, and strength—traits that this wax aims to honor.
The wax's bold gold hue not only captures attention but also conveys a message of wealth, prosperity, and ambition, aligning with the aspirations of those who aim high. Its shimmering quality isn't just visually appealing; it represents the illumination of knowledge, the spark of innovation, and the pursuit of enlightenment.
Art vs. Craft - A discussion
This week, I shared a few quick thoughts on art vs. craft and how I think about wax seals as an art form. There were so many wonderful comments and thoughts on this video, and it made me wonder if I should do an expanded Epistolarian about art vs. craft.
